We know that biodiversity is important for our planet and our existence, but it’s declining at an alarming rate. To address this crisis, scientists suggest we protect 30% of the planet as nature preserves, but creating them in Maryland state and national parks may not be enough. The good news is that we can make a difference by turning our backyards and local parks into native landscapes. By planting native plants, we provide essential habitat for the birds and butterflies and other pollinators and insects critical to healthy ecosystems and to producing our food. The more of us who do this together, the more habitat we provide. The Brentwood Native Plant Network is modeled on - and connected to - our neighbors through the Mt. Rainier Native Plant Network. Please join us on March 25 to learn what native plants are, how they benefit our yards and planet, where you can get seeds and plants for your yard, and how you can become part of this network across Route One. This event is sponsored by the Town of Brentwood Green Team and is organized and presented by neighbors. Please join us! We would like to offer Spanish interpretation so please email us at greensbrentwood@gmail.com if you could help
Call for art: Part of the Network includes an educational and attractive yard sign to indicate that the yard is contributing to biodiversity. We’re seeking a Brentwood resident artist to design this yard sign. Funds are available to pay the artist. For information on size, deadline, etc. contact greensbrentwood@gmail.com.
