Incorporated in 1922, the Town of Brentwood is an economically and culturally diverse community whose 3800 (Per 2020 Census)  new and longtime residents live in 700 single-family homes and several apartment complexes nestled between Queens Chapel Road and U.S. Rte. 1, just outside the Nation's Capital. The Town maintains all of the Town's streets, roads, and avenues, except US Route 1 (Rhode Island Avenue) and 38th Street, which is maintained by the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Brentwood is one of four (4) municipalities, (the City of Mount Rainier, MD, the Town of Brentwood, MD, the Town of North Brentwood, MD, and the City of Hyattsville MD,) along US Route 1 as part of the Gateway Arts District, and as such is working with the Gateway Community Development Corporation to implement revitalization along Route 1 Corridor. This revitalization, over the next few years, is expected to bring historic preservation events and tourism opportunities to the area, and to attract quality businesses to each of the four towns involved.

The town maintains three (3) beautiful parks/nature trails

Bartlett Park, which houses the town hall, a gazebo for cultural events, and playground equipment in a tree-shrouded environment;

Veterans Memorial Park, a small but well-landscaped site that provides a serene and meditative setting for honoring residents and former residents who have served in the armed forces of our nation;

Pocket Park is an evolving nature trail that borders The Town of Brentwood and the Town of North Brentwood

The town's two (2) major vehicular arteries are augmented by public bus lines within easy reach of three metro stations, Fort Totten, West Hyattsville, and Hyattsville Crossing (Prince George's Plaza) which can transport residents to anywhere in the Washington, D.C. area.

The Town has 720 single-family homes and five (5) apartment complexes
