Community Events
The Committee meets on a monthly basis to plan and coordinate various community events including Brentwood Day. Brentwood Day is a celebration of the town's incorporation and is held the first Saturday of June with a full day of activities. Other Community Events include the National Night Out Program and Arbor Day recognition.
The idea of Arbor Day was originated by J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska City. His was a simple message: Plant trees. The April event is organized by the Tree Committee who are responsible to study, investigate, provide counsel concerning the care, preservation, pruning, replanting, removal or disposition of trees and shrubs in public areas. The day is commemorated by the planting of a tree or scrub.
National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event held each year on the first Tuesday of August. The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in, local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that Brentwood is organized and fighting back.
An event is held annually at Veterans Memorial Park to honor all brave men and women who have served or those who continue to serve our country to keep it free for future generations. To start the holiday season, a tree lighting ceremony is held in Bartlett Park, with the singing of carols followed by a reception in the Town Hall. The Community Events Committee hosts a Holiday Children's Party with Santa stopping by with bags of goodies and having his picture taken with children.
Bartlett Park
Nestled between 38th Street, Upshur Street, Utah Avenue, and 39th Place, Bartlett Park is the focal point for recreational activities in the town. The park has a picnic area, playground and the Town Hall. Tennis courts are adjacent to the park on Volta Avenue.

Art Magnet Project in Bartlett Park
Brentwood, MD: Operation ARTS Foundation presents “Brentwood Exquisite Arts,” a free event for the opening reception of our second installation of a Free Little Art Gallery in Brentwood, Maryland. Join us as we celebrate the opening of the newest installation of our public art project “Art M.A.G.N.E.T.” (Mini Art Gallery Neighborhood Entertainment Tour.). This FREE event will be on Friday, October 28th from 4-6PM at Bartlett Park, behind Brentwood Town Hall, located at 4300 39th Pl, Brentwood, MD 20722. We will kick off the event with a tiny ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Rocio Treminio-Lopez, followed by an introduction of all the contributing organizations to the project. The day's festivities will also include refreshments and a tiny art-making workshop where the community can participate in the creation of the art to be included in the inaugural exhibition for the installation. We will also be introducing the winner of the mural design contest curated by Kieona Clark and unveiling the winning design by Saba Hamidi for the mural on the Free Little Art Gallery. This project is a creative beacon in our community and at these mini-art galleries, anyone will be able to make art, leave art, or take art. In addition to sharing their art, they can also share their stories on our social media pages Facebook and Instagram by tagging @artmagnetmd. We will also be finishing filming our documentary that covers our organization's journey in creating this public art project, the tiny art contributions, as well as stories about art created by the community. If you're not able to make the event please stop by and participate in this ongoing project at your convenience. This project is sponsored by the Town of Brentwood, Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council (PGAHC), and Gateway Community Development Corporation; thank you so much for your support which helped bring this project to life! Let's create exquisite art together!
Veterans Park
The triangular shaped park is at the corners of 37th Street and Utah Avenue. A bronze shield in the middle of the park contains the U.S. Army, Marine Corp., Air Force and the Navy emblems. Also, 125 of the bricks within the pathways bear the names of Brentwood veterans. The park has a brick wall dedicated to town veterans, a flagpole, benches, meditation area and several trees that shelter visitors from the sun. The park was dedicated on November 3, 2001 as a memorial in honor of our veterans and a tribute to those who served their nation in difficult times. Let all who come here find it a place of healing.
Pocket Park
Pocket Park is located at 4406 40th Street and is on the border with North Brentwood. Pocket Park has a trail for exploring.
