Nature Notes and Community Garden Initiative by CM Burgess

Even though we are in the chill middle of the winter season, for many it is a glorious gardening time. It is that time of year when folks begin to look at seed catalogues and dream about fresh vegetables and tasty ripe red tomatoes. Many love the social aspect of gardening which spawns conversations on the best way to build soil to claims of the “biggest pumpkin ever.” Community based gardening is a great way to build social connections, eat nutrient dense foods, lessen environmental impacts, and simply have fun. The trouble is that Brentwood does not have a community garden – yet. That is where you, the residents come in. This month we are asking you to participate in an exploratory committee that can provide options to the Town for the creation of a community garden space. The Mayor and Council have been very supportive of the concept but are looking for creative ideas from the residents to actually make it happen.

To that end, we invite all interested residents to a meeting at Town Hall at 7pm on Monday February 26th to discuss the founding, possible location and mission of a community garden for Brentwood.
